Green computing or green IT, refers to environmentally sustainable computing or IT. In the article Harnessing Green IT: Principles and Practices, San Murugesan defines the field of green computing as "the study and practice of designing, manufacturing, using, and disposing of computers, servers, and associated subsystems efficiently and effectively with minimal or no impact on the environment."

The Foundation Certificate in Green IT is the industry leading certification from the Institute providing candidates with the
knowledge and skills to increase energy efficiency and reduce costs in their organization.

Audience:

The certificate is designed for all IT professionals and anyone who requires a fundamental understanding of the subject area, including managers for Corporate Social Responsibility, Procurement and Infrastructure, and those who need to understand what green IT can do for them and their organisation – irrespective of industry sector.

Learning Objectives:

At the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Identify an organization external drivers and opportunities for Greening its IT
  • Identify the internal drivers, opportunities and benefits of adopting a Green IT strategy for both an organization and an IT service provider
  • Provide an understanding of the historic development and context of the Kyoto Protocol
  • Identify the main goals and objectives of government legislation and voluntary initiatives pertaining to Green IT
  • Describe how to assess an organization business operations
  • Identify the contribution that IT is making to those carbon footprints in terms of energy consumption and changing business practices.

Course Logistics / Systems Requirements:

  • Classroom with U-shaped seating arrangement
  • Whiteboard, projector, flipchart
  • 25 students maximum
  • Course runs 08:30 - 5:00 each day

If required, the exam can be scheduled from 4:00 – 5:00 on the last day

Prerequisites:

None, although a familiarity with IT service delivery will be beneficial.

Course Student Material:

Students receive a copy of the classroom presentation material. There are no direct reference materials required for this course; however Training Providers do have a choice of supplementing this course with reference materials available on the market.

About the Examination:

Accredited Foundation training is strongly recommended but not a prerequisite.

The exam is a closed book, forty (40) multiple choice questions. The pass score is 65% (26 out of 40 questions). The exam lasts 60 minutes.
